Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
  And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
  When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
    Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
    The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
    When I have crost the bar.

 

Notes
The bar referred to is a sandspit or similar promontory at the mouth of a river or harbour where tides have deposited sand over time. To hear the wind and waves moaning of the bar can be a portent of bad weather and a bad voyage.渡過沙洲，暗指走向死亡。
Pilot：領航員。詩中比喻上帝。顯然，詩人把人生比喻成船的航行，最終目的地是死亡。

About the poet:
Alfred Tennyson (6 August 1809 – 6 October 1892) was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom during much of Queen Victoria's reign and remains one of the most popular poets in the English language. Tennyson excelled at penning short lyrics. Much of his verse was based on classical mythological themes, such as Ulysses. Tennyson also wrote some notable blank verse including Idylls of the King, Ulysses, and Tithonus. During his career, Tennyson attempted drama, but his plays enjoyed little success.

夕陽下，閃疏星，
召喚一聲清朗！
願沙渚甯靜，
我将出海遠航；

潮汐如夢幻，
濤聲似止，浪花息；
大海深處湧來，
又悄然退卻。 

暮霭鐘鳴，
黑夜将籠罩！
願訣别無悲聲，
登舟起錨；

千古洪流，時空無限，
滔滔載我至遠方；
渡沙渚一線，
泰然見領航。
