It was many and many a year ago,

  In a kingdom by the sea,

That a maiden there lived whom you may know

住着一位少女

  By the name of Annabel Lee;

名叫安娜貝爾·麗；

And this maiden she lived with no other thought

這少女滿心想着一件事

  Than to love and be loved by me.

  就是全身心地愛着我，也希望我對她付出真情實意。

She was a child and I was a child

她還是個孩童，我，也是個孩童

  In this kindom by the sea,

  我們就居住在這海邊的王國裡

But we loved with a love that was more than love---

我們彼此相愛，但我們的愛呀，早已升華---

  I and my Annabel Lee---

  我和我的安娜貝爾·麗---

With a love that the winged seraphs of Heaven

我和她的這份愛情，連七翼天使

  Coveted her and me.

  都在惦記，觊觎想把它獲去。

And this was the reason that, long ago,

  In this kingdom by the sea.

A wind blew out of a cloud by night

一陣大風從暗夜的雲朵裡

  Chilling my Annabel Lee;

 神秘的愛倫坡

其實，說愛倫坡是個詩人并不準确，他更因為寫恐怖小說而著名。但我卻執意要把他首先當作一個詩人來看待，直到今天我也仍然視他為我心中最偉大的詩人，真是沒有辦法的事情。他的詩，與他同時代的其他人不同，他在詩中抒發的主題，永遠不僅僅屬于美國本土。他的詩，也永遠給人一種使癡迷的怪怪的感覺。他一直關注着“漠視”、“沉默”、“消亡”，總之，他所關注的是那種非物理存在狀态的東西。
