(4)動詞see和hear的否定被動形式,表示“不能見性”(invisibility)和“不可聽性”(inaudibility),也可以用相應的形容詞invisible和inaudible來表達,例如:
21)a.The aircraft got smaller and smaller in the distance until it could no longer be seen by the people on the ground.
b.The aircraft got smaller and smaller in the distance until it was no longer visible to the people on the ground.

(6)這類動詞中,see, watch, notice, observe, feel後面可跟複合賓語,主要用于 V+ sb.+ do sth.和 V+sb.+doing sth.兩種句型中。前一種句型的複合賓語是非進行時态的,表示在一般時間内全過程的動作或已完成的動作;後一種句型的複合賓語是進行時态的,表示在一特定時刻正在進行而尚未完成的動作,或在一段時間内連續重複的動作,例如:
30)a.I saw them cross the river yesterday afternoon.(= I saw them reach the other side.)
(昨天下午我看見他們過了河。)
b.I saw them crossing the river when I passed by at four yesterday afternoon.
(= I didn't know if they reached the other side.)
(昨天下午四點鐘我路過時,看見他們正在過河。)
31)a.I heard him play the violin the whole afternoon.
(整個下午我聽見他都在拉小提琴。)
b.I heard him playing the violin when I passed by his room.
(我經過他的房間時,聽見他正在拉小提琴。)

這類動詞中的taste後面不能跟複合賓語,而smell後跟複合賓語,隻能用 V+ sb.+ doing sth.句型,例如:

(他聞到廚房裡有燒糊東西的氣味。)
這類動詞中,隻有see,hear和observe具有被動形式,其餘的動詞沒有相應的被動形式,例如:

有些動詞,如 catch, find,也可後跟複合賓語,但隻用于 V+ sb.+ doing sth.句型,例如:

b.The thief was caught stealing.
(我們抓住這個在作案的小偷。)
43)a.I found her cooking in the kitchen.
b.She was found cooking in the kitchen.
(我見她在廚房裡做飯。)
此外,動詞see,watch,hear後跟複合賓語,還可用于 V+sth.+ done和 V+ sth.+ being done句型,例如:

b.He saw his team beaten by the visiting team.
c.He saw his team beaten.
